Blast Teams Up With Tennessee Youth Football


Memphis, Tenn – The Memphis Blast is pleased to announce a partnership with The West Tennessee Youth Football Association (WTYAA) for the 2015 season and beyond. Blast players and coaches will play an active role in encouraging thousands of young athletes within WTYAA, the first GDFL tackle football league in the state of Tennessee.

“We are delighted to establish this strong connection with the Memphis Blast, ” said WTYAA President Charles.  “The Blast is a first-class organization. We look forward to working with the Blast players, ownership and management to give our WTYAA families a chance to enjoy Pro Developmental Football at its best. We are very grateful to the Blast for allowing our players the privilege of joining them on the field next month. This will be a lifetime experience for them and the beginning of what should be a very fun experience for everyone in the WTYAA.”

The partnership is set to kick off on Saturday, May 9th with the 2nd annual WTYAA Spring Kick-off Game with athletes representing the 6 programs in the league will participate in the Spring kick-off Classic game on the field at Kirby High School. The youth games will begin at 9:00 a.m. prior to the start of the Pro Development Game which will kick-off around 6 pm which will feature the Memphis Blast versus (St. Louis, Mo) 2014 GMFL Champions Midwest Chargers. The WTYAA top two teams will have the opportunity to play the final quarter of the game on-field during halftime of the Blast versus Chargers contest.

The All-Stars of the WTYAA will be selected to participate in the G5 Game Wear H.Y.PE. BOWL at the end of the Season each player selected will be provided with a game jersey, players will be selected not only for their athletic abilities but also based on their dedication to academics and leadership.

“We are extremely happy to be partnering with WTYAA,” said Memphis Blast president and GM Charles Thompson. “WTYAA has an incredibly wide reach among youth football organizations in the area, and we are excited to begin working closely with these talented young athletes.”

The Blast will be holding a raffle and Team sign-ups throughout the May 9th game to raise funds for our Blast Youth Football & Mentoring Program, this is a community initiative which aids in supporting causes related to the Teams mission. To date, this initiative has helped raise funds to purchase new equipment and provide scholarships to needy players. The feature prize of the raffle is an authentic Memphis Blast Pro helmet & game jersey that will be autographed by the 2015 Memphis Blast Players and staff.

The Blast will also be hosting a Car Show & tailgate party May 23rd prior to the game in celebration of our Home-Opener against the Arkansas Gators and in preparation for the upcoming football season.


The The West Tennessee Youth Football League (WTYAA) , the first GDFL tackle football league in the state of Tennessee, fields hundreds of players on teams from Member Communities based throughout Memphis and Shelby County, including Orange Mound,Whitehaven, Cordova , Bartlett, Hickory Hill, North Memphis, and South Memphis just to name a few.
